Dean Ambrose and Daniel Bryan are two fan favorites in the upcoming Ladder match for the Intercontinental title. One of these two should walk off with the title. But which one should become champion?
The two men are part of seven who will vie for the title on March 29 at WrestleMania 31. Dolph Ziggler, Stardust, Luke Harper, R-Truth and defending champion Bad News Barrett are the other five participants in this match. Ambrose, Bryan and Truth are the only WWE Superstars in this match who have not become the Intercontinental champion before.
Ambrose and Bryan are the two most popular wrestlers in this match and possibly in the entire WWE roster. As it makes sense to put them in this match, one must wonder if either man will win.
According to Paddy Power, Ambrose is favored to win (4-6) with Bryan coming in second (9-4).
Let’s believe the oddsmakers for a minute. Say Ambrose does win the title; what happens next? Unquestionably, a feud must take place immediately.
The logical one would be Ambrose vs. Barrett. Frankly, this feud has already been done, which led to an unsuccessful encounter at Fastlanefor Ambrose. He failed to become champion. Winning the title from Barrett would be a culmination for Ambrose and his career.
Therefore, who should be Ambrose’s new nemesis? Insert Daniel Bryan—he and Ambrose would make the Intercontinental title prestigious again.
It’s common sense to pit two of the most popular faces against each other. Although, would fans welcome a heel turn by either man?
Actually, it’s not a bad idea. Both wrestlers can play the heel persona well. In fact, both men had successful runs playing the bad guy.
Ambrose ran rampant with The Shield and almost had a yearlong reign as United States champion. Bryan turned heel after gaining the world heavyweight title from Big Show.
However, they can bring out the best in each other. It doesn’t matter whom fans cheer for in the end.
Bryan is truly a wrestler. He can ground his opponents and defeat them in the air. His leg kicks and elbow strikes are exceedingly dangerous as well as the rest of what’s in his arsenal: deadly submissions.
And let’s not forget the “Knee Plus,” the running knee that won him a spot in the main event at last year’s WrestleMania.
Ambrose, on the other hand, is more of a scrapper/junkyard-dog archetype. He’s hardly the ring tactician, but his tenacity makes up for his lack of technical skills.
Dean Ambrose is the guy who just keeps coming at you. He uses his speed with his reckless abandon to battle. He slightly reminds me of Roddy Piper, the WWE Hall of Famer who knew how to battle and leave it all in the ring.
It didn’t matter whether he was the best; he always left a mark. That’s who Dean Ambrose is.
Bryan and Ambrose would probably have a short feud for the title. Ambrose needs the title more all considered. He did cut a promo in January about wanting to belong in the wall of great Intercontinental champions.
Bryan, on the other hand, doesn’t need the title. His popularity made him such a fan favorite that a title run would be inconsequential. He can jump back into the main event in no time.
This feud would bring back prestige to the Intercontinental title. However, it won’t happen if WWE Creative decides to go a different direction. Here’s hoping Ambrose and Bryan vie for that title sooner rather than never.
